It was an incredible evening at the 2023 New Zealand International Wine Show Awards last night (Friday 13th October), with our Giesen wines being awarded four trophies across our Estate range:
- Trophy for Champion Commercial White Wine โ 2023 Giesen Estate Riesling 2023

- Trophy for Champion Pinot Gris โ 2023 Giesen Estate Pinot Gris
- Winemaker of the Show โ Duncan Shouler
Four wines also received prestigious gold medals โ with ‘unanimous gold medal scores’ from the Chief Judge (Bob Campbell MW), the three Assistant Chief Judges, and the three-person Senior Judging team.
- Giesen Single Vineyard Clayvin Chardonnay 2018
- Giesen Organic Pinot Noir 2021
- Giesen Estate Riesling 2023
- Giesen Estate Pinot Gris 2023
It is extremely exciting to have our 2023 Estate wines awarded and recognised as some of the best in New Zealand.ย Our Estate wines showcase distinctive regional varieties which are generous and smooth, and at a RRP of $16.99 they are excellent value for the quality of the wines……and now we can say trophy-winning wines!
Our Giesen Estate Riesling has been a firm favourite with Kiwis for many years. A vivacious Riesling with succulent citrus blossom, alluring lime and sweet mandarin with a delightfully crisp, refreshing off-dry finish. Our Estate Riesling brings together outstanding fruit from two of New Zealandโs preeminent Riesling areas โ Marlborough & Waipara.ย The fruit selected from Marlborough adds a textural element, richness, citrus flavours and ageability to the wine, while Waipara gives us our fabulous floral aromatics.โ
Our Giesen Estate Pinot Gris is also a popular wine for New Zealanders. Like the Riesling, we select Pinot Gris fruit from vineyards in the Marlborough and Waipara wine regions.ย Fruit from Marlborough adds a delightful crispness to the wine and Waipara delivers beautiful aromatics. With aromatics of fresh pear, peach, nuances of almond meal and a palate of rich fruit with a touch of creaminess and subtle spice, leading into a lively, off-dry finish.
The NZ International Wine Show is one of New Zealand’s largest wine judging competitions, awarding wines of the world distributed in New Zealand.
Congratulations to Duncan (our Chief Winemaker) and Andrew (Winemaker responsible for spearheading our Estate wine production) and the rest of the winemaking/viticulture and operations teams. Weโre super proud of these wines; they showcase quality across our Estate range and at an affordable price.
