TOP NEW ZEALAND RIESLING

Our Riesling is the most-awarded white wine in the 20-year history of the New World Wine Awards!

We are honoured to announce that our Giesen Estate Riesling 2021 has been named in the top 50 wines at the New World Wine Awards 2022, making it the most-awarded white wine in the 20-year history of the Awards!

We are proud to be known for our Riesling. Since 2012, our Giesen Estate Riesling has won a total of 7 Trophies and 40 Gold Medals and is #1 in the Riesling category in New Zealand in both value and volume, as we fondly say, it’s New Zealand’s favourite Riesling!

We’ve been making Riesling for 34 years drawing from the Giesen Brothers’ German Heritage and making Giesen Estate Riesling in a Germanic Spätlese style. This means the natural fermentation is stopped before the wine is dry resulting in lower alcohol and a lovely natural sweetness. This process gives the wine a beautiful balance between lightness and freshness, with a hit of concentration of flavour, and a sweetness on the finish that balances the natural mouth-watering acidity of Riesling.

Whether you are looking for something succulent and sweet, textural, and mineral, European, or maybe 0% is what you need – Giesen has a Riesling for every occasion.

Giesen Estate Riesling 2022:

Giesen Estate Riesling celebrates fruit grown from two of New Zealand’s outstanding cool climate grape-growing regions; Waipara in North Canterbury with its cool dry climate and good sunshine, offers wonderful aromatics and Marlborough, renowned for its long warm days and cool evenings add a textural element, richness, citrus flavours and age-ability. The 2022 vintage celebrates aromas of spice and striking notes of lime and mandarin and delicious, succulent, juicy sweetness, paired perfectly with a Vietnamese chicken salad with fresh mint, coriander and a touch of fresh chilli.

Giesen 0% Alcohol Riesling:

Made from our premium, full-strength New Zealand Riesling, Giesen 0% Alcohol Riesling keeps all the best qualities of Giesen Estate Riesling. Using our very own spinning cone technology, we gently distil the alcohol out and we’re left with a wine that contains no more than 0.5% alc/vol and with 70% fewer calories than 10.5% alc/vol Riesling wine. It’s aromatically expressive, crisp, and refreshing, with the varietal characteristics you know and love … only with the alcohol gently removed. This happens to be our Chief Winemaker’s favourite 0% wine in the range.

Gemstone Riesling 2021:

Riesling fruit was sourced exclusively from a single vineyard in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough for its perfect condition and concentration. Portions of the blend were fermented and matured in granite tanks that are created from one giant slab of plutonic rock, with each tank weighing over three tonnes each holding 750L of wine – this is what makes Gemstone special. Granite acts like oak barrels, letting air in resulting in a slight ‘sweat’ and adding a concentration to the wine. They also have a natural ability to keep wine at a consistent low temperature allowing for slow fermentation allowing excellent flavour development and wine texture. Expect wonderful tangerine, lime and subtle tropical fruit aromas on the nose. The palate bursts with sweet mandarin and lemon sherbet. Tight acidity gives the wine a delicious raciness, while the textured palate and residual sweetness provide richness and a finish that is balanced and moreish.

Giesen Mosel Riesling 2019:

The Giesen brothers’ have fond memories of their grandfather’s trips to Mosel in the early 1990s, prompting them to purchase a vineyard within the village of Reil on the banks of the river Mosel in Germany’s most well-regarded wine region. The Giesen vineyard is exceedingly steep with an altitude difference of 150 metres from the top to the bottom of the vineyards. Its vines rooted in mineral-rich ancient slate soils are on average more than 50 years old and planted along countless small terraces supported by dry stone walls. In the Giesen Mosel Riesling expect aromas of tangerine, orange blossom, exotic notes of rose petals and orange marmalade. On the palate, look for citrus flavours, marmalade, and hints of nutmeg. A rich, vibrant wine with mouth-watering acidity and a long finish.

The Giesen brothers and our Winemaking team are passionate about making Riesling and backed by years of quality, expertise and excellence, they love that they can bring you a variety of Riesling wines that can be enjoyed at any occasion.
