Jeremy Tod Chief Winemaker
In a time of global change, Chief Winemaker Jeremy Tod took the bull by the horns and opted for one more – a new role with the Giesen Group.
Originally from Hunterville in New Zealand’s central North Island, Jeremy’s passion for the wine industry has seen him working harvests in Australia, U.S.A., Mexico, and even spending eight years in Chile.
“Many weekends and school holidays were spent working with a mate and his family on their vineyard in Central Hawke’s Bay, this is where my passion for the industry began.”
Seeking to return to New Zealand after his time overseas, Jeremy and his wife moved to Marlborough in 2015 and fell in love with the varied lifestyle. He cites proximity to the Marlborough Sounds and Kaikoura Coast as some of his favourite things about the region – no surprise given his love of surfing.
Jeremy spent several years at Yealands, most recently as Senior Winemaker, before joining the Giesen Group team in 2020. To date, he has relished the fluidity and fast-paced nature of his role – enjoying the excitement that brings, but has also appreciated the work-life balance.
In his spare time, you’ll find Jeremy spending time with his wife and three children or indulging in a good old fashioned barbeque – something he says he really embraced from his South American lifestyle. If he’s not pairing some barbequed meat with a well-rounded red, Jeremy’s top food match would be the Uncharted Sauvignon Blanc with a traditional South American ceviche marinated in lots of citrus.
