Great People

Roscoe Johanson Ambassador Hospitality Manager

Roscoe is fondly known as the 'fourth brother', the consummate host. Roscoe's role is to share the story of Giesen and to help visitors fall in love with Marlborough wine.

You will always find a Sauvignon Blanc in Roscoe Johanson’s fridge – a result of his 20 year background in hospitality management and his passion for Marlborough.

As Giesen Ambassador and Hospitality Manager Roscoe’s job is sharing the story of Giesen to help people around the world fall in love with Marlborough wine – not such a hard gig really!

Roscoe’s title belies his knowledge and the detailed planning behind the scenes. His vast experience includes; managing hotels and cafes, account management for Lion Nathan, being part of the team overseeing sponsorship, event management and hospitality for the 2000 and 2003 America’s Cup Regattas and responsibility for Maxxium’s duty free sales in Australasia.

Roscoe joined the Giesen team in 2009, initially in Sydney as the company’s Australian Marketing Manager before returning to his native New Zealand to live in Marlborough in 2012.

His arrival was soon after the opening of the Giesen Cellar Door, so drawing upon two decades of food, wine and hospitality experience Roscoe worked with the team to ensure the Cellar Door is one of Marlborough’s must-do attractions. The Giesen Cellar Door has become legendary for its wine experience, offering arguably the best array of Sauvignon Blanc, its generous regional tasting platters and a warm, inviting welcome.

Passionate about all things Marlborough, Roscoe was on the organising committee of the successful International Sauvignon Blanc Celebrations in 2016 and is returning to help on the committee for the next International Sauvignon Blanc in 2019.

When it comes to relaxing, Roscoe says it doesn’t get any better than hitting Marlborough’s mountain bike tracks or taking his boat into the Marlborough Sounds to fish or find remote bays to picnic and explore with his partner Natalia and their three children. It’s no surprise that even when relaxing with family and friends Roscoe always find a way to include food and wine, particularly his favourite Giesen wine The August 1888 Barrel Fermented Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
