Recycling
Giesen actively promotes recycling at its winery, head office and in all Giesen offices across the world.
We reuse grape marc and other by-product from our winery and vineyards in our compost. We are recycling and putting nutrient value back into the soil. We have recently invested in developing a unique impermeable compost pad. This compost pad allows us to make nutrient rich compost which we apply to the soil under our vines throughout the season.
We reuse all wine barrels. After being used to mature wine, barrels are broken down and recycled into furniture, platters, skateboards, wine bottle and candle holders. These are used and sold at the Giesen Cellar Door
To recycle vine prunings, we use a mulcher to grab vine prunings in the vineyard and mulch it up to include them in our compost.
At our winery cardboard is separated and recycled through an approved contractor, glass is separated and recycled through an approved contractor.
Giesen is a member of the New Zealand Glass Packaging Forum. For every glass bottle sold in New Zealand we pay a levy that contributes to research into alternative ways glass can be recycled.
