Limited Edition

Organic

Chardonnay

This organic Chardonnay exudes vibrant citrus flavour, delivered with length and complexity.

It is our viticulture practice to use organic philosophy throughout all of our viticulture management on all of our vineyards, not just our certified organic vineyards.

We see organics as being about improving our soil structure and helping the soil to hold onto water and nutrients. If the land is continually replenished, the soil will be healthy, and so will the plants and fruit.

Hand-picked, organic fruit for this limited edition Chardonnay is sourced exclusively from two of our premium vineyards in the Southern Valleys, Marlborough.

Vibrant aromas of lemon barley and mandarin peel with hints of freshly baked brioche. The palate is vibrant; citrus and fresh-cut stone fruit with hints of honey and roasted hazelnuts, finishing with length and poise.

Organic

We believe legacy is vital, so we aim to leave the land better than we found it. That’s why we're passionate about organics - as a means of improving the environment. And as an added bonus, the Giesen brothers are delighted by the quality of the grapes and the rich, intense wines resulting from our premium organic fruit.

Winemaking

Organic wines are about being proactive rather than reactive. We aim for balance and vine health with minimal inputs. Cooler temperatures during flowering meant reduced berry size and bunch weight. Smaller berries ensure intense, concentrated flavours. The cool start was followed by very warm, dry conditions which remained through to harvest across Marlborough. These conditions ensured great depth of flavour, superb texture and balanced acidity and sugar levels.

To create a Chardonnay with intense flavour and texture our winemakers separated the juice into three parcels and treated each one differently. One was fermented clean and bright to create intense aromatics, the second received a wild fermentation which adds texture and depth of flavour and the final component was fermented in oak barrels to create a wine with rich mouth-feel. The winemakers then tasted each parcel and blended to create an organic wine of intense aromatics and generous flavour and length.

Reviews

"This youthful, very ageworthy wine has a fragrant, complex, slightly biscuity bouquet. Weighty, with generous, peachy, citrusy, mealy flavours, it is complex and savoury, with a creamy-textured, very harmonious and lingering finish. Best drinking 2022+.
