Ripe plum and blackberry notes combine with sweet baking spice and toasty notes on the nose. The palate displays layers of dark berry fruit and vanilla from French oak aging, supported by fine tannin which gives the wine structure and a long dry finish.

We’ve crafted our Pure Light range to have maximum flavour with less alcohol and less calories than full strength wines. So you can have it all…..with less.

At 6% alc./vol. this wine is 50% lighter in alcohol compared to our standard Giesen Merlot (12.5% alc./vol), with only 49 calories and 1.6g of sugar per 125ml glass.

We select premium New Zealand fruit for our Pure Light Merlot. We go through the entire winemaking process to craft a full-strength Merlot wine and then use advanced spinning cone technology to delicately dealcoholise the wine down to 6% alcohol/volume which leaves us with a Merlot wine full of flavour….with only half the alcohol.

Winemaking

After harvest, the Merlot fruit was batch-harvested at perfect ripeness to create a finish that is smooth and satisfying, with a lingering note of dark fruit and a touch of oak.

Fermented cool in stainless steel tanks to retain purity of fruit flavour and freshness, then transferred to oak to build texture.

After blending, the wine was then gently dealcoholised using our spinning cone technology down to 6% alcohol/volume.
