Pinot Noir

A vibrant Pinot Noir with red cherry, bramble fruit, lifted florals, and spices. Crisp acidity, fine tannins, and smooth generosity reflect its diverse soils and micro-climates.

Striking red cherry and bramble fruit. Wonderful, lifted florals and spices. Crisp backbone and fine tannins. A smooth, generous Pinot Noir.

The Brothers

Just as the three Giesen brothers journey bought them to New Zealand we travel to great lengths to find the best of every vintage. We strive to ensure The Brothers wines are rich and rewarding while retaining elegance and purity.

Vineyard

Wairau and Southern Valleys, Marlborough, New Zealand.

Winemaking

Fruit was crushed and cold-soaked at the winery for four to six days, with fermentation on skins lasting between 16 and 29 days. Ferments were treated gently to avoid overextraction, resulting in a soft, gentle style of Pinot Noir. Yeasts that would handle high fermentation temperatures were chosen to stabilise colour and heighten flavours in the wine, without extracting too much tannin - a balance our winemakers have mastered. The wine was aged on fine lees for six months to build natural sweetness and texture.

Dan Murphy's Wine Panel

"Heady, evolved example with bottle age and savoury heft. Primary berry fruits are inevitably suppressed for a more truffley complexity and bottle-derived flavours. Clean, juicy finish.

Decanter World Wine Awards

"Attractively ripe and beautifully fragrant, the bouquet shows dark cherry, smoky bacon, anise and dark mushroom aromas, followed by a finely textured palate offering juicy fruit intensity and silky flow. Charming and elegantly complex. At its best: now to 2027.
2020 Vintage; Reviewed July 2021."

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"This is a medium-bodied, silky rendering of Pinot Noir. Restrained aromas of cherries, dried herbs and vanilla lead into similar flavors, then pick up a touch of mocha on the long finish. Drink now–2020.
2013 Vintage; Reviewed March 2018"

Joe Czerwinski, WineMag.com

"Grapes were sourced from Central Wairau and Southern Valleys for this tasty pinot. The fragrant bouquet shows red/dark cherry, clove, nutmeg and floral aromas with a touch of game complexity. It is succulent and plump on the palate, and delivers attractive fruit intensity as well as appealing savoury nuances. At its best: now to 2019.

Sam Kim - Wine Orbit

"Charming, fresh and fruity bouquet with aromas and flavours of cherries and plums, some soft vanilla spice and mild oak tones, fine tannins add just enough mouth feel and acidity to engage the ideas of tension and a pause before showing off the flavours of red berries again. Balanced and well made. Drink now and through 2022.
2013 Vintage."

Cameron Douglas

"Bright medium red. Perfumed aromas of strawberry, rose petal and spices. Juicy and intense, offering very good concentration to its brambly red berry and cherry flavors. Finishes with firm but smooth tannins and very good tactile persistence.
2012 Vintage."
