Ripe plum and blackberry notes combine with sweet baking spice and toasty notes on the nose. The palate displays layers of dark berry fruit and vanilla from French oak aging, supported by fine tannin which gives the wine structure and a long dry finish.

We’ve crafted our Pure Light range to have maximum flavour with less alcohol and less calories than full strength wines. So you can have it all…..with less.

At 6% alc./vol. this wine is 50% lighter in alcohol compared to our standard Giesen Merlot (12.5% alc./vol), with only 49 calories and 1.6g of sugar per 125ml glass.

We select premium New Zealand fruit for our Pure Light Merlot. We go through the entire winemaking process to craft a full-strength Merlot wine and then use advanced spinning cone technology to delicately dealcoholise the wine down to 6% alcohol/volume which leaves us with a Merlot wine full of flavour….with only half the alcohol.

Winemaking

Fully ripe Merlot grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, then fermented on skins for seven days to give a rich, dark coloured classic New Zealand Merlot. After aging on French and American oak for six months, the wine was delicately dealcoholised using our spinning cone technology. The result is a wine showing fullness and body of a classic New Zealand Merlot, with ripe flavour and great structure, yet with only half the alcohol content, and less than half the calories.
