Together, these accolades recognise the quality and value of the highly popular Giesen Estate and Ara Single Estate white wines. These wines are all about expressing place by showcasing distinctive regional varieties with generous flavours.

A great example of this place-centred approach is the Double Gold-winning Ara Single Estate Chardonnay 2016. Giesen Chief Winemaker Nikolai St George describes this Marlborough gem as, “Intensely flavoured wine that really amplifies the remarkable Wairau Valley story. It’s a complex, creamy Chardonnay with distinctive tropical characters coming from the Rapaura block and a bright, citrus acidity from the Woodbourne vineyards.”

Giesen Group began in 1981 when German-born brothers, Theo, Alex, and Marcel Giesen decided to shake up the NZ wine industry up by starting Giesen Wines. Today as Giesen Group they have created a powerhouse of the New Zealand drinks industry, leading the way with international wine brands; Giesen and Ara as well in New Zealand with the Kaiser Brothers Brewery range of craft beers.

Success is due to the development of a talented viticultural and winemaking team and Giesen Groups investment in sustainable vineyards, and winemaking technology Giesen Group own multiple vineyards throughout Marlborough’s highly sought-after Wairau Valley, enabling meticulous vine-to-bottle quality. Furthermore, in the pursuit of the most prized fruit, they have long-term relationships with 50 of Marlborough’s most respected growers.
