Giesen Uncharted

Uncharted Pinot Noir

Red cherry and plum with hints of mocha and sweet baking spice. Rich, concentrated and balanced with fine grain tannins.

Giesen Uncharted Pinot Noir 2023 is sourced from premium vineyard sites across Marlborough. Loam, alluvial and stony silt loam soils help regulate vine vigour and enhance fruit concentration. Mesoclimates across the region support balanced ripening and varietal definition.

Fruit was harvested and fermented on skins in the winery with selected yeast for seven days to establish colour, aroma and flavour. After fermentation, the wine remained on skins for a further seven days of maceration to enrich mouthfeel and build palate weight, while maintaining balance and finesse. The wine was then pressed, and a portion was matured in French oak for nine months. A range of coopers and toast profiles was selected to deliver subtle oak influence and gentle layering, while allowing Marlborough fruit expression to remain the focus.Prior to bottling, the wine was fined and filtered to achieve a clean, stable finish and a refined overall presentation.

Reviews

Dan Murphy's Wine Panel

"Bring out the Peking Duck! Uncharted is a perfect match. Fleshy, velvety, dark cherry/plum, richly flavoured, succulent, nuanced with carefully apportioned oak, and enhanced by a food-friendly, savoury undertone. Utterly delicious, you’ll be going back for your second glass before you know it!"

Sam KimWine Orbit

"Pristine and gorgeously inviting, the bouquet shows dark plum, spiced cherry, olive and roasted nut aromas. It's equally attractive on the palate, displaying fleshy texture and silky tannins, making it comforting and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2025."

Bob CampbellThe Real Review

"From grapes grown in the Southern Valleys subregion. Reasonably deep-tinted Pinot Noir with dark-fleshed plum, dark cherry, cassis, grape stems. Fine peppery tannins give structure without making the wine at all inaccessible. A smart Pinot with character."
