✦ NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand offers remarkable conditions for growing wine. Its cool climate, long daylight hours, and maritime influence shape wines of clarity and balance, placing Marlborough at the centre of our story.

WHY NEW ZEALAND MATTERS?

From subtropical Northland to the southern tip of Central Otago, Aotearoa New Zealand spans an extraordinary range of climates and landscapes within a relatively small footprint.

Surrounded by ocean, shaped by mountains and defined by long sunshine hours, New Zealand offers ideal conditions for cool climate wine. Warm days build flavour. Cool nights preserve freshness and natural acidity.

SHAPED BY LATITUDE AND LIGHT

New Zealand sits between 36° and 47° south. During the growing season, vineyards receive extended daylight hours that stretch ripening across the season. Fruit develops slowly. Flavour builds. Acidity remains bright.

New Zealand experiences high levels of UV light, particularly in Marlborough. This has a measurable impact on grape development. In Sauvignon Blanc, UV exposure supports the formation of thiols, the compounds responsible for the gooseberry, passionfruit and citrus notes that define Marlborough. In Pinot Noir, it enhances anthocyanin development, often contributing to the vivid purple hue seen in young wines.

PURITY, VIBRANCY, AND CLARITY

Giesen wine is defined by purity. Great fruit comes first. Careful vineyard management and considered winemaking follow. Then we allow the place to speak.

Minimal intervention ensures that what you taste reflects site and season. The result is wines known for purity of fruit, natural brightness and transparency of character.

HOME TO WORLD-CLASS REGIONS

From Marlborough’s aromatic whites to the structure and depth found further south, New Zealand produces a wide range of wine styles. Each region has its own identity. Different soils. Different climates. Different growing conditions. Yet across the country, balance and freshness remain consistent.

Driven by pioneers willing to explore and experiment, New Zealand has built a global reputation in a relatively short time. Innovation sits comfortably beside tradition. Curiosity drives progress.
