Clayvin

Syrah

From world renowned Clayvin Vineyard in the Southern Valleys, a certified organic Syrah that is full of texture and concentration.

The journey of each Single Vineyard wine starts in a Marlborough vineyard selected for its unique terroir and climate. They are then nurtured with meticulous hands-on viticulture to ensure fruit produces highly concentrated flavour. Our winemaking expertise then allows these wines to speak for themselves, their purity becoming a showcase of the land.

Established in 1991, Clayvin Vineyard is a north facing hillside vineyard, the vineyard planting is high density. This density creates natural competition among the vines, reducing vigour, promoting root structure and intensity of flavour. It also means that the vineyard only produces ‘one bottle of Clayvin Syrah per vine’.

On the nose our Single Vineyard Clayvin Syrah has beautiful, bright, aromatic fruit aromas of blueberry and plum which meld with violet, cinnamon and nutmeg unlined with an aniseed influence. Its powerful palate is full of texture and concentration with a lingering savoury finish.

Clayvin Vineyard

Clayvin vineyard is a living tribute to Marlborough’s viticultural history. Organic with 30 year old vines, clay soil, high density plantings deliver wines of great concentration and richness. Our finest wines from a distinctive, revered vineyard.

Winemaking

Syrah from Clayvin Vineyard is selectively hand picked.

In the winery the fruit is held on skins before warming to encourage a wild ferment. It is matured in a selection of new and used 225L French oak.

The wine matures in oak for two winters before racking and blending.

"Who says you can’t grow great syrah in Marlborough? This very classy red is boldly coloured, with a fragrant, spicy bouquet. Still very youthful, it has concentrated plum, spice and black pepper flavours, seasoned with oak, a hint of liquorice, impressive complexity and a well-structured, lasting finish. Best drinking 2024+. Certified organic.
2019 Vintage, Reviewed November 2020."

Michael Cooper, Winestate New Zealand
